"Keep discovering and preserving women's work in cinema"

About Us

Kelas Liarsip is a research collective with a special focus of study on film archiving, restoration and women’s work in Indonesian cinema. The group started as a virtual learning group in March 2021. In 2022, the collective has conducted the research on tracing Ratna Asmara - the first Indonesian woman film director who began her career as an actor. Her first debut as a director began with Sedap Malam (1950). She actively made five feature films from 1950 to 1954. Unfortunately, only one film remains which is her third film, Dr. Samsi (1952) - an adaption of a famous theatrical play. With the support from several colleagues, the collective managed to repair and digitize the 35mm film print.
